國寶魚櫻花鉤吻鮭生活在台灣超過萬年，現在雪霸國家公園內的七家灣溪可以找到。他們原本是迴游大海的溫帶鮭魚，冰河時期來到台灣，之後因為地表隆起，氣溫升高，無法迴游而成為「陸封性鮭魚」，因為櫻花鉤吻鮭是在冰河時期來到台灣的，是一種「冰河孑遺生物」，也是活化石。櫻花鉤吻鮭名稱的櫻花是因為成魚身上有紅色的條紋，身體橢圓形斑點整齊排列，兩側有小黑點，吃水棲昆蟲，有機會可以上雪霸國家公園造訪這些台灣珍貴的原住魚。

It seemed the ancestors of the Formosan Salmon migrated from the Sea to Taiwan during an ice age. The land uplift made it impossible to swim back to ocean. They settled down and locked in certain freshwater. The salmon is endemic fish and critically endangered. They are reckoned as National treasure fish in Taiwan, the population increases from hundreds to thousands due to careful reproduction.Taiwan Salmon has a dark back, oval spots, bright red stripe on body sides and given the name cherry salmon. They inhabit slow-flowing streams, mainly in the Cijiawan Stream. We hope that one day the Formosan Landlocked Salmon will thrive in all of the upper reaches of the Dajia River, just like it did before.
